As Mat Fraser, 5 time CrossFit Games Champion and all round fit bloke, retires from competitive CrossFit, he has started to reveal his secrets. After a recent gym tour video, Fraser revealed a secret arm conditioning tool called a FIITY Arm Burn Machine which has consequently flown off the shelves and interest has spiked!
In his recent Joe Rogan interview, Fraser gave more detail about his sleep routine. Saying he tries to get as much as 10-12 hours a night to be as recovered as possible ahead of competition.
Fraser said how important his sun light alarm clock was in waking him up naturally.
Fraser has said this has helped him wake up more naturally and feel more energetic in the mornings. Sleep for Mat Fraser is a necessity so we understand how seriously he takes his rest. Check out what dawn simulator alarm clock he uses and some alternatives too.
What is Mat Frasers Sun Light Alarm Clock?
The Sun light alarm clock that Fraser uses is the Philips SmartSleep Wake-up Light. The Philips SmartSleep Wake-Up Light allows you to personalise your sleep and wake-up experience through sunset and sunrise simulation. Unlike a traditional alarm clock, it is designed to wake you in a more natural way, using a unique combination of light and sound.
The relaxing sunset simulation helps you wind down for bedtime. Smart features include FM radio, tap snooze, a choice of 5 natural wake-up sounds and an automatic dimmable display. Developed with Philips’ clinical Sleep & Respironics healthcare knowledge and 30 years of leadership in sleep.

Fraser said in another recent interview "Without a doubt, I would say my dawn simulator is the biggest positive influence in my life. It is an alarm clock that wakes you up with light instead of sound. Because of this change, you feel as if you are waking up on your own, and are not groggy."
How does Mat Fraser Sleep?
Fraser also went into more detail about his evening routine and how he gets such great quality sleep. He is a big advocate for Beam, a pre-sleep drink containing magnesium and CBD and in addition to this he says he turns his phone off a few hours before bed, to help him get to sleep.
Mat Fraser's sleep routine involved disconnecting from social media, avoiding blue light, winding down with Beam and getting a solid 8-10 hours and when he was competing he mentioned that this was even more. Sleep is such a large part of recovery for crossfitters especially if you're competing to be the fittest on earth!
One interesting point that we at AMRAP Antics liked was the fact that to wake up he had a special sun light alarm clock which gradually emitted light at the time he needed to wake up. Replicating the circadian rhythm of the sun.
Mat Fraser Sun Light Alarm Clock Alternatives
At around $100 the Philips SmartSleep Wake-Up Light is pretty expensive for an alarm clock but if you're really trying to be the best of the best, I imagine this is totally necessary.
However, if you're not as loaded as the GOAT, then I have outlined some sun light alarm clock alternatives that you should check out.
HeimVision Sunrise Alarm Clock
The first sun light alarm clock alternative is the HeimVision Sunrise Alarm Clock which looks very similar to the Philips SmartSleep Wake-up Light with a few extra features for over half the price. This one can also link up with Alexa, to set your alarms, to snooze and more!
Hatch Restore Sunrise Alarm + Light
This alternative looks to have the most functionality, the Hatch Restore Light + Sunrise alarm has the ability to link with their app to adjust the sounds, lights and timing.
At a slightly higher price point, you'd expect more functionality as well as higher quality finishes and the Hatch certainly looks like that. This Sunrise Alarm and light has the ability to play soothing sounds to help you drift off to sleep (they have a library of white noise, nature sounds, rain sounds and more!)
OnLyee Wake Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock
The OnLyee Wake Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock has a few extra functionalities but the main one being a phone charger as well as a selection of modes and colours to choose from. The biggest plus however is the price, at only $29.99 this one is by far the cheapest so those looking to save money then this is your option.
Sleep is such a vital part of recovery and none more so that CrossFit athletes like Mat Fraser. If, like me, you are dead to the world in the morning without your hit of caffeine then maybe these sun rise alarm clock lights will help you with energy levels in the morning.
I mean, Mat Fraser used these and he won the CrossFit games 5 times, imagine what these could do for you!
